>How does one determine if the volume was due to "buys" or sells?<

For every trade there is a seller and a buyer. So how do we call it a sale or a buy? Easy, if the trade happened at the buyers price (bid) it is termed as a sell. If the trade happens at the sellers price (ask) then it is termed as a buy.

Hope it helps.

Hello TODD! How are you? I have realtime quote from interquote and can see the last 8 ticks and know if they are buys or sells by an up tick or down tick. If I look at them from the open, I know how many and how big the buy or sell was. If I'm here at the start, The program I have keeps a tally of the buys and sells for me and I have a realtime tic by tic chart. I hope this helps! The MM can also be the buyer or seller.
