Good News for Identix

A top northwest broker told me he's picked up 100,000 shares of IDX in recent trading based on our coverage at wbn.com with more to come. She likes the idea of being able to "ask the analyst any hour, any day, anywhere." IDX was originally underwritten by Paulson back in the early '80s.

Senate passes $47.1 Billion Transportation bill today

Any money for expansion of O'Hare pilot?

WASHINGTON (AP) - Smoke-free airplane cabins, already commonplace on domestic routes, would become mandatory on international flights under provisions of a $47.1 billion transportation bill overwhelmingly passed today.

The bill, approved by a 90-1 vote, would provide record spending for highways, transit and airport improvements.

The transportation bill proposes $27 billion for the Federal Highway Administration, $9.85 billion for the Federal Aviation Administration and $5.36 billion for the Federal Transit Administration.

The bill is the first try at laying out federal transportation spending for the 1999 fiscal year, which starts Oct. 1. The House will now consider its own bill.

*******

Caveats - Bill must be reconciled with House version and signed by Slick Willie, but deadline is October 1. 90 - 1 is a pretty good consensus.
