Hello David Z. It's kind of a catch-22 situation. The market for shrink-wrapped tools and the $99 compiler was not going to grow Borland, which is the reason for the move to enterprise and the name change to Inprise. I agree that the loyal developer following (how many of us learned on Turbo Pascal...I remember the glory days) and it has been crucial to Borland's continued existence. To really grasp the vision, the loyal following has to believe in the enterprise vision of distributed object computing and cross platform compatibility. In the conference call, Del mentioned that many of their traditional followers are upgrading to the top end packages. You make an interesting point by questioning the underlying reason for the change Del mentioned.

As for decreased revenues resulting from decreased sales in the shrink-wrap tools... I'm from the camp that believes much of the revenue decrease is the result of Asia, specifically currency problems in Japan and the continued economic slump. I'd hate to think what the revenue would be without the enterprise sales that are starting to hit the books..
