Alan, I'm sorry you don't know who a brother is. Very simply, a brother in Christ is one who has been born again. A brother is not determined by what he says or does in the flesh. A brother is determined by birth into God's family by the Holy Spirit. "not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit," (Titus 3:5 NKJV) Titus 3:5: The ineffectiveness of human works for attaining salvation is nowhere better seen than here. God's mercy saves us, employing the agencies of regeneration and renewal. "Regeneration" means "becoming again." Here the concept has to do with personal regeneration. At the moment a man exercises repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ, he is born anew (cf. John 3:3). The Holy Spirit makes him a new creation (cf. 2 Cor. 5:17). Matthew 19:28 speaks of cosmic regeneration, the renewal of the earth during the millennial reign of Christ. "whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior," (Titus 3:6 NKJV) "that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life." (Titus 3:7 NKJV) The New Birth "There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews." (John 3:1 NKJV) "This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."" (John 3:2 NKJV) "Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."" (John 3:3 NKJV) "Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? an he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"" (John 3:4 NKJV) "Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." (John 3:5 NKJV) ""That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." (John 3:6 NKJV) ""Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'" (John 3:7 NKJV) ""The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."" (John 3:8 NKJV) "Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"" (John 3:9 NKJV) "Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?" (John 3:10 NKJV) Alan, this is how one is made a brother, no other way. A person must be born into the family of God by the Holy Spirit, no other way. Very plain and very simply stated; and I believe it because I have experienced it. I don't speak words of mental conjecture, I speak words from personal experience. God bless you with His truth, David
