Sonic Solutions and Adaptec Collaborate to Bring DVD-R and
DVD-ROM Support to the Desktop; Adaptec Joins Corporate DVD
Partners Program

NOVATO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1998--Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ:SNIC) announced today that
Adaptec's Toast DVD software application will be integrated into all Sonic DesktopDVD systems.

In a cooperative effort, Adaptec and Sonic have worked together to create a more productive environment for DVD
production. DesktopDVD will now include integrated DVD-R support, cross-platform DVD-ROM publishing and expanded
DVD-Video/DVD-ROM hybrid support. With DVD production rapidly moving into corporate video, education,
government, multimedia and training, the integration of Adaptec's Toast DVD and Sonic DesktopDVD allows desktop video
professionals to easily publish their video content on DVD from their computer desktop.

Working closely with Adaptec, Sonic has integrated Toast DVD into DesktopDVD for comprehensive multi-platform
DVD-Video and DVD-ROM authoring and publishing. "Adaptec is the acknowledged leader in optical storage software
solutions. Now with Toast DVD, Adaptec brings their leading technology to DVD-ROM," said Mark Ely, Director of
Product Marketing at Sonic Solutions. "By including Toast DVD with Sonic DesktopDVD we not only provide our customers
with the leading DVD-Video production system, but also with the tools they need to publish their DVD Video, ROM and
Hybrid content on their desktop with DVD-R."

As part of their agreement, Adaptec has worked closely with Sonic to define the DVD-R and DVD-ROM requirements
necessary for professional DVD production. "Sonic continues to develop highly innovative DVD-Video production tools, and
to expand the DVD market," said Rob Griffith, Product Manager for Toast DVD at Adaptec. "We are pleased to be able to
work with Sonic in providing leading DVD developers and corporate video professionals with a complete DVD production
solution."

Zuma Digital in New York uses Sonic's DVD production tools along with Toast DVD and has created over 250 check
DVD-Rs for a wide variety of clients including Revlon, John Hancock, McGraw Hill Medical, BMW, Cemex, Mattel and
dozens of others. "The ability to efficiently create test discs is critical for our DVD production, and we've worked closely with
Sonic and Adaptec to develop this capability," said David Anthony, CEO of Zuma. "Given all the complexities of the DVD
specification, the DVD-Rs give us added confidence before our clients manufacture discs. And for many of our corporate
clients who are doing one-time DVD-based presentations or promos, the DVD-R is the final product."

Adaptec Joins Corporate DVD Partners Program

Sonic recently formed the "Corporate DVD Partners Program" with leading DVD peripheral suppliers, providing corporate
customers with complete end-to-end DVD solutions. Adaptec joins existing members Creative Labs, leading provider of
multimedia solutions for the PC, and MARGI Systems, the leader in DVD PCMCIA cards for laptops. Along with corporate
content producers, these companies are working together to promote the widespread use of DVD in a variety of corporate
and industrial settings.

By working closely together with leaders like Adaptec, Creative Labs and MARGI, we can solve the hardware/software
'chicken and egg' problem of new formats," said Mary Sauer, co-founder and Sr. VP of Business Development of Sonic
Solutions. "In order to be successful, a new format like DVD requires easy access to a variety of hardware playback devices
as well as systems to create high-quality content; together we are working to make this happen in the corporate market."
