The Falklands: Financial Times, Saturday
The trio of stocks linked to hopes of an oil find near the Falklands Islands took heart from a story going the rounds that Shell had discovered positive signs of deposits. Desire Petroleum gained 27« to 232«p, while Westmount rose 9p before coming off its high and closing up 4 at 125p. Greenwich Resources firmed to 25«p.

Lasmo's CEO comments on the Falklands:

Financial Times, Saturday
Joe Darby, Lasmo's chief executive, said Lasmo is looking at "selective" opportunities in Argentina. Mr Darby said it was also too early to write off the Falkland Islands as a possible oil producing region, even though the first two wells, drilled by Amerada Hess and Lasmo, were not successful. "The jury is still out," Mr Darby said. "We've gained a lot of useful information with the first two wells."
