Novell exec says "We are feeling good about current quarter sales" and "Sales of BorderManager and ManageWise/ZEN Works exceeding expectations".

Overall I see a more functionally aligned Novell, with (finally!) integrated/centralised marketing and increasing credibility with Wall Street.

Looking good!

Costa

>>Your enthusiasm and ideas are great. But with all due respect, I'm getting lost in the overly descriptive, metaphorical and lengthy content of your vision and belief of how things in the enterprise should unfold. If I have it right, busy businessmen want a crisp one pager to get the essential points across.>>

Focus, focus, focus.....

That's why we have this medium. To share whatever, with no restrictions, conditions, etc. I appreciate your feedback greatly and take to heart the message.

>>I have to go look back at the book by Nesbitt, "MegaTrends" written some time in the 1980 period, or earlier I believe. His vision of us going from an industrial based economy to an informational based one was beautifully articulated 15 years ahead of the wave. There are going to be lots and lots of ripples that will move out from the splash of the current internet phase.>>

My Dad gave me this book at that time. Still have it and agree with you.

Here's a crisp concept for you to think about:

"Thoughts are eternal sources of energy. When you think these waves go forth into the universe and they have a life of their own. What's so great is that if you fundamentally believe in a spiritual higher power, you can rest comfortable knowing that these thoughts will intersect, fuse, coalesce and come back in some form - at some point in the future - to influenc you, lift you up and point you in new directions - in front of new people, etc.

The Internet is the embodiment of this reality or process. When you really get down belly to belly with the Internet, all it really is is an audit trail or record of thoughts. Like datagrams and datapackets, thoughts have embedded the sender and receiver IDs.

The Internet simply records and preserves thoughts. So we have this incredible, growing source of energy - some good and some very bad - that's vying for a hearing in this new, emerging world medium that can makes us think, react, evolve and grow - ONYL IF the technology supporting it embraces this "openness" I speak about.

Who knows, the Internet could fracture into two or more pieces - one where corporate enterprises - destined to maintain their distribution networks - end up paying our freight - perhaps even paying us money!!! (in lieu of advertising) - for a more resticted, economically selfish SUBSET of this Global Network - somewhat downstream from TV.

The "public domain" Internet as we know it today may/could be a thing of the past if these interests succeed in controlling certain funnells - ie. portals - getting in the way, modifying content, agreeing to support restrictive technology platforms that impede the flow of information. If enougn money is spent NOW, corporations could conceivably stake out certain portals - Internet, wireless, landline, etc. - divvy up select vertical markets and choke off/restrict the flowering innovative "little guys" from ever being able, in a lasting kind of way - to stake their "thoughts" and idea on a truely "open" world stage.

I think we all have to be aware of the inevitable: corporations collectively have the power to create a two-tier global network that will preserve and extend the life of their bureacracies...by working together to create 1) A FREE resticted world network - run by corporations; and 2) an expensive private network that will be the home of individuals and small companies.

Let's be honest with ourselves: We are witnessting "the golden age" of the Internet: the early naive stage where we all think and still try to believe things are paved with good intentions.

We think the Internet is cheap today. But don't be surprised when these interests work together to bring "cheap" to a new level of meaning.

Information is power. Control of information from a platform standpoint creates huge monetary leverage. Corporations are opening their wallets into the internet - not necessarily for altruistic reasons, but also - depending on the players - for control reasons.

This is the down/seamyside of business. Money > spent on technology > which limits openness > creates more potential control > to managed and restrict for maximum economic leverage things sought after >>> leads to more power, etc.

There I go again. What started out to be crisp, ended up a bit soggy, but you get the idea.

Thanks Quad for your feedback. One of the things I have always acknowledged about myself is that "I'm out there". It always makes life fun and interesting when you can laugh at yourself as you keep barrelling ahead. You won't find me pausing too much, but I do like to log into the stars, flowers, animals, etc.

Keep up the energy and spirit yourself.

Good Luck!
