If things really look rosy in Minnetonka, we should see insiders backing up the truck soon. I would consider it a big negative not to see insider buying at these prices.

Ancor's hiring and ability to attract top notch executives could be seen as a positive. I can't recall where I heard it (shareholders' meeting?), but I think that during recruiting they are shown some information about the company that they are told they can't trade on. Just exactly what that information is - is anybody's guess. Just speculating that it could be deals at various levels of development, new products, or possibly alliances with other companies that would improve their position. Whatever the information is, it is only part of the equation. We estimate the potential success of these executives based on past performance and to a certain extent we all base future personal expectations on past performance. This may not be true, especially where a large part of the variance is consumer acceptance.

I listened to a CNN business story today on how Pepsi wants to spin off their bottling business so that they can compete with Coke. One of the reasons given in terms of competitiveness, was that a separate bottling division would allow them to address the individual idiosyncracies of local markets. I thought to myself, here you have fairly simple product and in order to compete you have to come up with specific local strategies. What does it take for a complex product like an FC switch, in an atmosphere of incomplete market acceptance? Does anybody know? So far I think we have had some pretty good ideas, but the company clearly has their own.

It has been pointed out that if the MKII is used by someone, it may be to that company's advantage to keep it quiet via an NDA. It certainly is not to Ancor's advantage publicly, but they probably would be able to let potential customers know about it. I am not sure they know demand is coming. I was very interested in Roy's remark that Sequent is "swimming" in switches. It was something I have been curious about and had some preliminary information to this effect from the Yahoo Sequent Thread.

All things being equal, the switch company with the best financing may win out in the end. Hiring may not be the best marker of the viability of the company. Surviving until there is more widespread acceptance of FC switching is probably the key.

This company is a piece of S..t The topbrass has there heads up their A.s. (just for you Craig :) But this company is a joke! And some of the big bulls seem to be long gone! Ken and Cal, said NOTHING to instill confidence, Nothing = This coming from someone that is out 25K. Ancr - Ken, Cal, Steve, you guys are a JOKE!!!! Fortunately I have money invested in real companies that have helped me make up for this loser! Ken, Cal, Steve, you guys are a JOKE, or should I say crooks - Hey theirs only a buck and a half and then it's over.

PS . Yes - I am ashamed to be associated with this company.

Robert, what you say is appealing from a logic standpoint, but more detail is needed as to exactly who is being hired, the positions being filled or created, and the reasons for the positions being open. For example, if the new hires are to improve software which is lacking, that may mean that they are quite close and just developing the final piece of the puzzel -- but suppose the software problems (if they exist) are nowhere near being solved, and no switches can be sold without that solution. Are we optimistic, or not?

Suppose people are leaving in droves, and these hirings/advertisements are replacements because prospects are dim, as seen by those departing? Are we optimistic or not?

Suppose the new hirings are to ramp up based upon commitments and serious expectations awaiting market need as determined by the OEMs? Are we optimistic, or not?

For me, too many variables and possibilities to understand what that means. Still long, but of the very, very strong opinion that the market for switches -- which is the only market that counts for us at this point -- is 12-14 months away, and that everyone, including Brocade is feeling the pinch. Roy's comments about Sequent being awash in swiches is telling, and I wonder when Sequent will be reporting next, and whether it will have a serious mismatch of revenue and expenses for a market still waiting to happen. One final thought, can there really be a market until many, many other larger tech companies jump on board and endorse FC?
