Since all of the SC world is in a slump and everybody
is doing anywhere from bad to terrible, the fact that there
are overall sales and price erosion does not bother me so
much. The big loses that we are suddenly seeing and
may see for a quarter or two more may be the result of
management not doing more sooner and they just look very
bad due to playing catch up. Some of you have called this bad
management. The product mix and direction still looks relatively
ok to me--it always did and that was the attraction to we longs.

(1) With a tougher minded management attitude, (2) new management,
or an (3) acquisition, IDTI could come back strong. One of these
three have to happen. As a stock holder I'd prefer number two
first. Number three would be ok but drastic. I just don't know
if a leopard can change its spots when it comes to number one?

A last scenario that could save the day would be for IBM to build
the Centaur chips so well and so fast that IDT suddenly grabs a
customer or two and coupled with the current cost cutting and
restructuring, things get much better within a few quarters, all
with the current management team. This seems possible--we hope.

Then there is a general semicunductor recovery. Not likely for
a while though. So, I'm not factoring in this possibility until
1999--but you just never know.

That's my morning speculation.
