bearshark- something caught my eye this morning on bloomberg TV news- a typed bullet at edge of screen advising chile stocks will rise on rising copper prices, and mexico stocks will rise on rising energy prices in the coming weeks. Hmmm....

To all: I've been a lurker for some time. Afew comments. I'm an old fart=56. Been around awhile...the old timers tell us to buy low and sell high. Companies like RIG,SLB, DO, HAL are not going out of business. NEVER is anyone comfortable buying companies when the prices are low. There has to be a gloomy outlook for them to be low.
Now just think of it, 70% of the world oil reserves are beneath Muslim countries, they are by nature unstable, often fanatic, they hate us, and we will not have forever have cheap oil, AND no one rings a bell at the bottom. If your horizon is 3-5 years, I doubt we will be sorry we were in this sector. I sure the hell am buying at these levels.

"Good luck to us all if we ever experience a true general bear market again"

Hi bearshark, Didn't you know that we are in a new era and bear markets are out-bull markets are in-what should be down is up-what should be up is down-always buy the dips-never sell.

I know there are some of the new rules I am missing but just am not insync with all this new era stuff yet. . . but I am trying very hard!

Besides all that you are being politically incorrect!!!! :-))

Monty

PS SLB has burned me bad (not $wise but %age wise and ego wise) trying to pick the bottom on the oils. Didn't follow the old rule about cutting your losses.

However, I have found at least one sector that provides
an excellent refresher course for bear markets.

Take a look at NSM, IOM etc etc. plenty of stocks have been declining for a while and every time they look like hitting bottom they go down some more. I know I lost plenty on thinking NSM had bottomed out.
