Robert, In Canada we have the CCRA, which is like chapter 11, Canadian Creditor reorganization Act or some such(I am not sure of the initials). Under it the court appoints a person/firm to oversee continuing operations while you try a deal with creditors to pay over time or take shares etc. It stalls bankruptcy and if the deal is court approved you run under the deal until you have paid that debt/time deal and seem to be OK, and you then emerge and all creditors are dealt with.
Seems to work.
