O.K., I'm running a company that has a "solid history". Why then would I be willing to give away free work? I negotiate software development contracts for a living. If someone asks me for a proof of concept or a "show and tell" I hand them a list of satisfied customers for reference and politely tell them that any demonstration of capability would have to be funded. If they insist on the freebie we decline the business. The first time I gave away "product" would be my last day on the job. "Show and tells" are the domain of startups with no track record.
