Tippet: I am far from sure we will see 8300 by August 21, but I am quite confident the peak is in and the main trend now is down. The overall market has been much weaker than the averages. The Russell 2000 now is off for the year. Over 200 new lows Friday with the Dow off just 4%. Gross speculation in internet stocks. The market internals stink to put it mildly.

Gold stocks are not the only group to have already experienced a full fledged bear market. Energy service stocks -- big winners from 1995 through 1997 - have been slaughtered with many issues off 50% from their peaks. Other groups are sure to follow.
