Double taxation of
profits distributed in the form of dividends has forced corporations to reinvest almost all profits into
growth instead of allocating a percentage of profits to dividends for stock holders.


And in Australia where dividends are not double taxed but capital gains are at the same marginal rate as other income, the dividend payout rate is very high. Also there are far less takeovers as a result.
