SIII Chip, when I asked if you "would" be long SIII, I didn't mean to impugn your honor. I just thought it was a depressed stock with an interesting new product Savage3D that might be deserving of some speculation. I figure that Savage has to do better than Virge, so maybe SIII earnings and revs can improve. Mat ------------- Figuring that Savage will do better than Virge is a bit of twisted logic. The fact of the matter is that Virge did very well. It was awful for 3D, of course, but then there wasn't much competition, and 2D was quite good. The fact that Savage will most surely be a better product doesn't mean that it will do better than its sub-par predecessors. In fact, the Savage part is not particularly impressive in any area and will be facing tremendous competition. There will be minimal retail buying since its specs and reputation are not too hot, and will therefore have to rely on OEM wins. This is telling of TDFX's strongpoints: if it fails at OEM it still has a great shot at retail. As 4 meg cards were a big deal a while back, they are now considered inferior, with 8 megs being the standard. 16MBs will no doubt be popular in short time. Savage can't do 16MBs. This may not matter due to its texture compression algorithms (though I don't really know), but there will be that "16MBs is better than 8MBs" macho thing going on in people's minds. Funny how this gets brought up as Banshee's shortcoming (AGP1x vs 2X), but nobody mentions the Savage's potential marketing shortcoming. --------- I will call TDFX next week to see if I can get a little insight into the planned advertising blitz. Is anybody aware of what is in the plans at the moment? I am assuming it will be all print and web. I am concerned about the cost of TV, though I don't know if it is even in the cards. Would think that the whole advertising thing would be a nice plus to OEM's ------------ Has anyone used the H3D glasses? I would be curious to know if they are any good. For conversation's sake, would this be a possible acquisition target for TDFX? In an effort to make Voodoo a platform unto itself, different from the competition, perhaps these glasses would make a nice addition. TDFX would have the clout to get "Voodoo Eyes" (TM) in the retail channel. Incorporating the driver into Glide may get a few more titles ported to Glide? Interested in your feedback...
