Jenna: about DELL's earnings play this time: do you think, because of GTW's slide this time, the tug-of-war between bulls-and-bears will start, may be 3-4 days before the release date? (instead of just 1-2 as usual). ... Gone thru most of your knowledgeable postings via the scroll-list ... pretty impressive work and fantastic record! Congrats!

regards to all,
-/Sonny.

btw. would you consider NEWZ as a possible earnings play candidate this time? ... earnings are on 7/29 ... it experienced a huge short-lived spike from 10 to 13 recently and back at ~ 10 now ?? Thanks.

Jenna,
Thanks for the link and the excellent answer on DELL.
I have heard before that current month in-money calls can work quite well if you expect the stock to go up significantly. From my novice looks at TA I might expect DELL to continue declines on general market news back down to 96 or so then move up strongly on earnings rumors and potential splits. Does this make sense?

As I said before, I am quite long on DELL in IRA accounts, but have some short term money that I can use for an earnings play also.

Unfortunately, since I haven't done much options work, these have to be paper trades for now.
Also, any idea where novice options traders can go to find the symbols for the different options in a stock, is there a pattern to them?

Craig
