Joan, my point (which I did not made very clear since I've discussed it before here and on Ask Mohan thread) is that the present 1980's - 1990's situation is nothing like that in 1950's - 1960's. I see many people do this comparison, and even try to predict stock market future moves based on this comparison, but the economic, demographic and geopolitical conditions are very different for the two periods.

I see similarities to the 1920's (so-called Kondratiev cycle). Therefore stock market future may look like that in US (and elsewhere) in 1930's or Japan starting in 1990.
