To: The Dudes; TB,MG,DJ,JT,TG et al. Greetings from a long time lurker who has greatly enjoyed the FA, TA, and humor. I recently paid homage to the webmistress and sent in tribute for a "membership 'til death" in SI so that I might take full advantage of all the features that are similar to those that are free on YAHOO! etc.<g> I confess that I feel a little intrusive in posting on this thread as I recognize the semi-private purpose as a meetingplace for the Dudes. Anyway, FWIW I had been making my own investing and trading(smalltime) decisions for many years(while helping my broker to buy his new car) until finally going online a little over a year ago. Am now using a discount broker which makes "trading" a more profitable option. In choosing stox and leaps I have looked for two major positives. 1) Demographic Advantage- A growing market due to the effect of major population groups such as "baby boomers" and their "echo boom". Examples would be healthcare and pharm stox; MRK, PFE. 2) Machines That Print Money- Companies that have the ability to produce new mass quantities of in demand products quickly without the addition of large numbers of human resources(and their "catberts"). Prime examples of MTPM; INTC, MSFT. Ideal example of company that fits both DA and MTPM would be PFE. As demand explodes for Viagra and other aging related pharms , the production of additional units adds little to overhead costs. Hence, earnings can explode. As always, IMHO. Will post more on demographic groups and other stox that fit. Comments? -John PS recent trades; Sold QAQAL Jan 99 60c leaps at 50% gain post earnings report. Bot ANQAH Jan 99 40c leaps about 4 months ago @ 6. Now sitting and praying at about 1 1/4. Ouch. AMAT has been very good to me over the years. Recently spent pizza money on: Ann Gros 96 Vosne-Romanee Japanese art film "Shall we dance." Both highly recommended!
