The pessimists on this thread, who have written TVL off as a lost cause, forget or ignore some of TVL's fundimental virtues. 1)TVL is gearing up, not merely to produce V-chips, but MILLIONS of them. The manufacturing process becomes far more complex, and that not surprisingly, takes time. 2) Regardless of what Soundview and PG have to say on the matter, it was TimCollings who got Bill Clinton to write the laws demanding V-chips. That has value at the time of product launch. 3)Gosh, we almost forgot that: the law requires not merely that TVL sell them, but that TV manufacturers BUY them. The company that can manufacture them in quantity can sell them in quantity. The fact that other companies have competing products doesn't eradicate TVL's glimmer of hope. Licensing to other companies is being arranged now. 4) Lawyers have a saying" If you can sue someone, sue everyone you can". Soundview, and PG have not involved TVL in litigation, because I suspect, they simply have no case to be made. TVL is the "good guy". 5)The V-chip is an international consideration, not merely a North American concern. The market is hundreds of million. Market saturation is years away. 6) The process of encoding the line 21 signal by broadcasters is an enormous task . Again, time is needed. If NBC and others refuse to play along, so be it. Parents can revert to the channel erase button that already exists on most TV's and simply remove NBC utterly from their homes, not merely selected programs. As was found in TVL's product testing "what you don't see, you don't miss". Advertisers should take note of that. 7) Rushing to market is not wise. As has been detailed on this thread, first release of a V-chip product (#0002) is disappointing. It would have been nice if TVL were first, but I would rather they get it right. In the very near future we will all know if they did their homework. Mistakes will be made, but I haven't seen anything so far that I would call fatal. RobM
