To all:

It's been mighty quiet on this thread for the last couple of days, so I thought I'd break the silence. The lack of posts is understandable, given that Apple is at one of those points between major news days (i.e., earnings and the iMac launch). But given that we're in a market correction, that may not have seen bottom yet, I'd be interested in hearing the opinions of those contributors that watch the market short term, before the Monday morning bell. I thought this might be of interest to those people that are considering increasing their position after the recent pull back, as well as those that held through July 16th.

Though I don't consider myself a technical trader, I do try to pay attention to technical signals (within the scope of my limited understanding). A recent post pointed to a link that provided an ongoing Elliot wave analysis of AAPL that has proved quite accurate in recent times. Their most recent success was to call a move of AAPL from ~25 around June 1 to ~38 on July 16. They missed by pennies. Their current projection called for AAPL to fall to 33-35 within the week after earnings, to be followed by a fast run into the mid to high 40's. So far, they're on the money.

Any comments?

I, like many, am very positive about AAPL after the iMac launch. I'm expecting to see an aggressive TV ad, coupled with intense promotion from the likes of CompUSA. Within 2 weeks of the iMac launch, we'll have Steve Jobs at Seybold, where I anticipate an announcement of some kind, such as new desktops. From that point, announcements of iMac sales and back to school could carry us to the Q4 announcement, which I am betting will be positive. As you may have guessed, I see AAPL as a news driven stock. Though timing AAPL by the news has been a successful method for me in the last 2 years, it can be argued that AAPL has basically followed the market in recent months. And we do have 2 1/2 weeks until the iMac launch in an uncertain market.

All comments are appreciated.

Scott

Here's a good one showing that the death of MacWeek is actually a good thing, as far as Apple (and Apple investors, perhaps) is concerned:

wired.com;

Thanks for posting that link. I'll be canceling my MacWEEK subscription before eMedia Weekly ever hits my mailbox, I just can't support that new mag.

I've been keeping watch on the number of pages in the major Mac publications for the last year. The page count for MacWEEK has steadily fallen, Macworld is falling, but not as quickly, and MacAddict has fluctuated between 114 to 122 pages for some time now, not moving up or down long term. I don't receive MacHome Journal or any other Mac-specific magazines.

The theory being that, the healthier the Macintosh market really is, the more ad pages companies will buy, and the more reporters and editorial content a given magazine can support. Overall, things still seem to be in decline, but I expect the iMac and Apple's revived fortunes will change that soon.
