Hello Claire,

Very sorry to hear about your Notebook problems...

As a person who is deeply involved with technical issues related to Compaq machines and with a reasonable knowledge of the logistics surrounding repairs, my only comment is that I have never seen a Compaq notebook screen that cracked of its own volition. What happened to crack it?

I don't believe that there is any notebook manufacturer that will cover what might be accidental damage under Warranty. It would be Financial Suicide!

As for the battery charge problem, NiCD, NiMH and Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries are all subject to a greatly varying degree of useful life depending on the environment under which they operate. As a result, the actual battery is only covered under Warranty for a very limited period of time. (Again, this is standard policy from most PC manufacturers). If the problem lies with the charging circuitry in the PSU, diagnostics at an Authorised Service Provider will determine this, and the relevant parts will be replaced under Warranty.

Please let me know how you fare with this issue. Also, once again, I would be extremely interested in knowing how the screen cracked?

Regards,

Harrigan

Of course, I would be extremely surprised if the screen cracked on its own. So I don't hold it against a company when they won't pay to fix something that you broke.

Claire G,

You wound not say how the screen cracked, would you? As an engineer, I can only tell you that it has to be stressed in some form to do that. Now then, if you can think of any number of ways it could have been stressed, you will find out if you are a reasonable man, that warranty of a computer will not and should not cover abuse of a machine. Go ahead buy dell pc and I can assure if you subject it to the same stresses you subjected the cpq pc, the screen will crack again. Go ahead and see if dell will cover that under warranty. People, give me a break. Common sense is badly lacked here. Peace and good luck.

Claire, if you hadn't dropped it maybe that wouldn't have happened.

Claire,
I believe many retailers will sell you insurance on the screen. Too late for this accident.
