When entering expired options on gain/loss worksheet....do you leave the date sold empty? NO, you show the third Friday of the expiration month - which is the date they expired.
.
You then write in "EXPIRED" under the Price/Proceeds column.
.
If the options were WORTHLESS (rather than expired) see FPAM call options for example, then you do not put in the expiration date, rather you write "WORTHLESS" across both the sale DATE and PRICE columns.
.
My other mistake.....I have a short sale on the worksheet so the sales date preceeds the acquire date....is this a problem? Not at all, but I generally add to the description as such:
"1,000 shares IBM (short sale)"
