NEWS: Siemens Nixdorf Selects QLogic to Provide the Fibre Channel Interconnect for Its New Family of Intel-based Primergy Server Products
COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 1998--
The High Bandwidth and Throughput Requirements for These
Industry-leading Server Systems Demand an Interface Architecture
that Supports the Greatest Level of Efficiency While Maintaining
Superior Performance.
QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC), an industry leader in I/O technology and a leading designer of Fibre Channel interconnect solutions, Tuesday announced that it has signed an agreement to provide its products to Siemens Nixdorf Informationsysteme AG, a leading global manufacturer of computing and communications products/solutions and IT services.
Siemens Nixdorf's Entry-Level Server Division, which manufactures and markets the Intel(R)-based Primergy server line of products, will employ QLogic's Fibre Channel adapters with its Primergy servers, addressing the complete needs of their users stretching from low-end to enterprise customers.
Fibre Channel is particularly well-suited to those environments where Primergy servers are mainly targeted. These environments include applications such as SAP/R3, Baan, MS BackOffice(TM) or Oracle(R) that require the performance, connectivity and reliability which Fibre Channel solutions can provide.
Dieter Herzog, vice president and general manager of Siemens Nixdorf Entry Server Division said, "QLogic was among several vendors that went through an extensive evaluation. QLogic was ultimately selected due to the superior performance and reliability demonstrated in all aspects of testing."
"Together, QLogic's Fibre Channel adapter and Siemens Nixdorf's highly scalable and compatible Intel-based Primergy servers and server clusters line, address the market demands for a reliable and extensible server family," Mr. Herzog added.
"This agreement with Siemens Nixdorf demonstrates the leading position QLogic has taken in the delivery of Fibre Channel for enterprise-level server solutions," said H.K. Desai, president and chief executive officer of QLogic. "Our commitment to strong customer support combined with an architecture that delivers high performance and ease of implementation were key decision points for Siemens Nixdorf and the primary reasons that QLogic is a recognized leader in Fibre Channel solutions."
About The Market
The enterprise server market is one which is expected to expand. The demands of the data center, whether the application is financial, retail, warehousing, etc., are being increasingly met with Intel Pentium(R)-based designs. Fibre Channel is finding acceptance in this market as end users demand high performance, flexibility and reliability at increasingly lower price points. The Siemens Nixdorf Primergy family of computers meets these market demands with a range of Intel-based systems at competitive prices.
When combined with high-availability storage, such as Siemens Nixdorf's Primergy 502/702 or EMC's Symmetrix products and the high performance QLogic Fibre Channel adapter; capabilities that were previously found only within mainframe environments can be achieved at a reduced cost.
