sergio, that wasn't necessarily for an acquisition but an asset in general. yes, standards are set for continuity,but i believe it is in the sense that they use the same method every time. suppose the asset was for office furniture, each company has their own decision to expense it out or depreciate it. i am not sure but i don't think there are rules governing those type of internal decisions by the sec or gaap or fasb aicpa. your formula only checks to see if the balance sheet debits and credits are in balance, i am not sure how it would determine manipulation if company a decided not to depreciate their furniture and company b did.often it is a decision based on financial position.familiar with the footnotes, that's where i got the figures for soss on.
