Microsoft's failed Korea deal sends out warning

biz.yahoo.com

<< A botched investment deal between U.S. software giant Microsoft (MSFT - news) and a South Korean software company illustrates a wariness towards foreign investment that could deter investors, analysts said.

In June, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, responding to a plea from South Korea's Hangul & Computer, said his company would invest up to $20 million in the Korean firm to take a minority stake with no voting rights.

The two companies signed a letter of intent on the deal.

But Hangul & Computer on Monday announced it was scrapping its deal with Microsoft in favour of a South Korean consortium representing the country's software industry, which promised an initial investment of about 10 billion won ($7.8 million). >>

hmmm ..... Now Mr Softy is going to have to crush them in the market.

Mr. Rennert builds his dream home

stocksite.com

<< And beyond the details of his house -- which at 100,000 square feet will carry a $100 million price tag and boast a parking garage large enough for 100 cars -- we have yet further evidence of what Mr. Rennert is all about: the above-referenced "exchange offer" filing with the SEC for one of his companies: Lodestar Holdings Inc. Through that document and similar filings for some of his other companies, it appears the money to pay for Ira's grand lifestyle is coming from simply bleeding his businesses dry with junk bonds -- more than $500 million of which have been issued by his businesses this year alone, according to a recent tally by the Wall Street Journal. >>

House built on a weak foundation, sometimes stands.
