Cymer Inc. (CYMI) said orders for its ELS-5010 krypton fluoride laser exceeded $16 million during its first three months of introduction. "While industry conditions resulted in a reduction in the total number of units shipped for the quarter on a sequential basis, overall revenues increased in part due to the acceptance of this new product," the company said. The ELS-5010 sells for $503,000 as compared with $410,000 for the older 5000 Series laser.
Backlog at June 30, 1998, including both new systems and spare parts was $81.4 million, down from $110.8 million at March 31.
Cymer said it currently expects total units shipped for the 1998 third quarter to be less than those of the second quarter. However, the higher average selling prices for the 5010 lasers will result in third-quarter total revenue and earnings coming in "relatively flat" with the second-quarter revenue of $53 million and net income $1.7 million, or 6 cents a share.
The mean estimate of five analysts surveyed by First Call is for third-quarter net income of 6 cents a share.
Cymer reported net income of $7 million, or 23 cents a share, on revenue of $57.5 million for the 1997 third quarter.
