<< Don't forget we are now just talking about PCs, how about palm size computers, which will have CE installed. What about the AUTOS which will install GPS software? All those are source of revenues for Microsoft in the years to come !!!! >>

Have you ever done embedded software development? If you have, then you know you didn't use any Microsoft products to do it. By trying to compete in the embedded systems market they are stepping way off their turf. It's a different world. Tiny and efficient code is crucial in cheap, mass produced embedded systems.

Companies like Wind River Systems are many years ahead of Microsoft in that area. They offer tools that can be used on lots of different hardware platforms (not just Intel), even tiny hardware devices you design in-house. It's just not at all similar to developing PC software.

It may be a source of revenues, but they have a long way to go before they prove to investors that it is a source of profits.
