<<Lucent, the son of ATT, seemingly has inside track on Cisco as supplier to ATT/BT joint venture, don't you agree?

Where are Lucent's Router, intelligent hub and LAN switch? If it wants' to compete with Cisco, that is what it has to have!

Duh, why would a carrier want with an intelligent <sic> hub or lan switch? Are n't they interested in carrier scale ATM switches for their backbones? Unless of course AT&T or BT are now offering consultancy to build your enterprise lan infrastructure. Where do I find details of this new service? I wanna call my account manager to help me update my campus LAN :-)

Lindy, did you see LU's Laudermilk saying it wants to take to Cisco in data networks. Now, how do you suppose it could do that without router, intelligent hub and LAN switch? Tulvio ************** dailynews.yahoo.com Yahoo! News Technology Headlines Tuesday July 28 11:18 AM ET Lucent Makes Another Acquisition By Kathleen Cholewka, ZDNet Lucent Technologies Inc. buys again. The communications equipment and systems supplier, which has made four deals in the past 12 months, said today that it is looking to buy software vendor MassMedia Communications Inc. for an undisclosed amount. MassMedia, based in Natick, Mass., makes network signaling software, which when implemented in communications equipment allows service providers to carry and bill for voice, video and different types of data services. Lucent spokesman Stephen Loudermilk said MassMedia's software would be instrumental in incorporating products from recent acquisitions, like Yurie Systems Inc.'s data networking devices, into Lucent's product line. Although Lucent's internal labs develop networking software, the acquisition is a quick way for the vendor to get its hands on ready-made products. The acquisition points to Lucent's desire to arm itself to do battle with major data networking vendors, such as Cisco Systems Inc. "We're eager to match wits with Cisco," said Loudermilk.
