Scott:

Really appreciate the link. You must be having a ball inside Novell. The ground shifted long ago. It will take Wall Street a lot more time to realize it. You guys are right smack in the middle of a restructuring/growth story that will be talked about for some time.

I can feel the positive energy and fire inside Novell intuitively. The energy I see and feel coming from Microsoft is NOT positive.
Microsoft is being passed by.

Among Novell investors, while some of the burned bulls are gone, there are still more out there. What's really interesting even among investors is the style and spirit that's exhibited by those who purport to "share" knowledge and information.

If I was a burned bull, the question would be: do I let my ego get in the way of "seeing" a story unfold. This is the story of Wall Street. Whether we are heros or bums - winners or losers - the REAL question is not what the marketplace told you from today going back, but rather what is the market telling you NOW going forward! The essential question: can we put our egos aside so we can really understand what's happening NOW - good or bad?.

Dealing with ego is the number one problem we all face day to day.

Novell has this well under control. Microsoft, on the other hand, is a company that can more appropriately be described as ONE BIG EGO! A more appropriate name for Microsoft today would be MICROHARD.... Can ONE BIG EGO have the answers to the future development of the world Information Superhighway? My answer would be NO.

So if you are a developer out there, keep this in mind. When you code for Windows, ask yourself: are you really doing the right thing? Are you making a difference in the world. Are you doing something that is "opening up the energy of individuals" to make a huge, lasting positive difference....or are you doing something that is "sucking off you energy and the energy of others"? You have been paid well by Gates. The question is, does the money really matter? I think many of you have made enough. I think its time some of you think long and hard about putting it to a better use.

My take on Novell is that every engineer inside knows they are "doing the right thing". You are the underdog with better products - a great position to be in. The positive energy inside Novell will grow and compound. You will be successful because the spirit Eric has created is alive: it embraces, accepts, challenges while it opens up.

Thanks again for the link. Keep knocking them dead.

Someday soon I will pay a visit to your campus in Provo and hope to meet you and the rest of the gang. See if you can pull Eric aside for a cup of Java.

PS. For those interested, I have elaborated on the link over on AOL. Don't have the time to repost here today..

Microsoft may want to forge an agreement to license Novell Directory Services, which is light years ahead of the still vaporous Active Directory. It could also invest in Novell in an effort to tap into the humongous NetWare installed base for future NT Server sales.
