Along the lines of AXC needing to capitalize on their EXCELLENT
reputation. The following is taken from "Stereophile" magazine's
August 1998 edition interview with Akira Taguchi, the producer of the
JVC XRCD line of audiophile CDs ( some feel they are the best ).
Excerpt talking about recording & initial storage:
STEROPHILE: How do you store the signal?
Taguchi: Analog, mostly half-inch, 30ips, no noise reduction.
Stereophile: Ampex?
Taguchi: That's the best. Studers suck! Well, they record OK, but
the playback is no good. No, really. Ampex has better high frequencies and a better bottom end - more smooth, too.

Basically, JVC XRCD's involve painstaking methods to eek out the very
best sonics using existing equipment. AXC could be "right there" for
the forthcoming improvements in CD softwear/hardware (96/24 etc)..
