It's a terrific job for kids. When my brothers and I caddied our future was probably destined to be a cop or a fireman as were most of the other local kids.

Seeing these guys drive in in expensive cars and taking a day to play golf, have a drink and lunch and stroll over to a pool cinched it for me. I wanted to be one of them, not one of us.

Perhaps that's why my wife calls me a stableboy among gentlemen. I still have all the rough edges.

But it has worked well for my eldest son who works as a caddy as well. He gets to see what normal people are like (the other caddies) while being exposed to people who are somewhat powerful. Plus, it's a damn good buck these kids make. So he gets some discipline with respect to a work ethic as well. It's not punching a clock and getting minimum wage. It's showing up, working hard, and making more money than he can spend. Great job for a teenager.
