"I now believe that the FAA is actually going to make it,"

Now, let me see if I've got this right. The FAA has more than
two hundred mission critical systems over eighty of which are
involved with Air Traffic Control. It just took them TEN
MONTHS to discover that one of these systems uses some
goofy, serendipitous, date-coding scheme that delays the drop
dead failure date until 2007.

Suppose you're being chased by two hundred pit bulls and
one of them falls over dead from a heart attack. Do you
celebrate? Declare victory? Call a press conference?

Don't buy into this happy-face malarkey. Lift up the corner of
the tent and turn on the flashlight.

Like the press ought to be doing.

"I can't believe anyone who is intelligent, who is in charge of anything dependent upon this, won't

'Alfred Waddell, president of Waddell & Assoc., a Memphis investment management firm, isn't worried about Year
2000 problems causing major difficulties -- and says investors shouldn't worry either.

"I think it's going to pass with relative ripples. ... I wouldn't be afraid to fly on Jan. 1, 2000, nor do I expect my lights
to go out," he says. "I can't believe anyone who is intelligent, who is in charge of anything dependent upon this, won't
be on top of the problem."
