<<ISI Company Survey Index 50.4 in July 24 week

NEW YORK, July 27 (Reuters) - The International Strategy & Investment (ISI) Group Inc. said its weekly company survey index fell to 50.4 in the week ended July 24, from 50.8 registered in the prior week.

The survey's four-week moving average dropped for the eighth week in a row to 50.9 from 51.1, ISI said.

The declines, led by homebuilders, auto dealers and banks, may indicate weakness in the manufacturing sector is starting to slow comsumer spending, said Jason Trennert, vice president and economist at ISI Group.

''Weaker corporate earnings, layoff announcements and the General Motors strike may contribute to weaker readings in the weeks to come,'' he added.

Each week, ISI surveys nearly 100 retailers, auto dealers, manufacturers, homebuilders and banks for their views on the current state of the economy. >>
