Broadening PowerPC customer base requires OS development Scott your post indicates the above and this news item suggests the PowerPCs from Motorola will be available to many customers, not just AAPL , different from MacCentral's report of it today : " Motorola has announced versions of the PowerPC G3 processor running at speeds of 333 and 366 Mhz. According to internal Apple representatives, Apple will "use the fastest PowerPC processors available as soon as we can." The new processors use a 1.9 volt power scheme, which according to Motorola, reduces power consumption by more than half when compared to existing PowerPC 750 microprocessors at the same clock speed. "Motorola's advanced manufacturing capabilities are a powerful tool for building high-performance, low-power microprocessors," said Will Swearingen, PowerPC strategic marketing manager for Motorola's Networking and Computing Systems Group. "The resulting combination of higher clock speeds and lower power will enable Motorola's latest PowerPC 750 microprocessors to help customers in multiple markets maximize system-level performance and value." maccentral.com Who could the customer(s) be ? And as a partner in AIM does AAPL share in PowerPC revs to "customers"(like Video Stream International) ? And will AAPL vend the (Mac OS Lite) OS ? This could be a new revenue stream for AAPL . Can anybody clarify or expand on the above ? Regards, Jim K. ------------------ >> " Through its relationship with Apple Computer and Motorola, Video Stream International will be shipping communication terminals as part of the TERACOM communication network solution. Each terminal will employ one to five Altivec based PowerPC microprocessors; the number based upon customer need. " <<
