Being owned by BVF is a real plus but doing a private placement means nothing. Most biotechs do private placements and until one sees the details one only knows they probably got screwed but not how. Private placements are done in part because it is too costly to do a direct private placement. Once the public already owns a companies stock the private placement will impact them, meaning any harsh terms in the private placement will be costly to the public owners of the stock but probably not to the new private buyers who may have no interest in the company as an investment.
