Bear Trap

Hello Lee,

To me, if we have a general market correction which affects nearly all stocks, both healthy and sick, and people see the correction as an opportunity to short a good stock or buy puts, not differentiating the sick from the healthy stock, then it's a trap.

So a 'bear trap' is not a premeditated device used by market makers or traders to suck in some unwary short money, but rather a misdiagnosis of the macro-market pattern? Or can it be both, depending on circumstances?

TIA, bachman
