Diagem: Drilling under way in Brazil

First stage of drilling on Chapada is under way

Mr. David Cohen reports

The first stage of exploratory drilling on the Chapada is well under way.
The drill program has revealed significant new occurrences of indicator
minerals.

More specifically, drilling has identified an area that hosts large
concentrations of ilmenites. These ilmenites are generally fresh (without
abrasion) and further analysis indicates that they are coated with
lucoxine, a chemical substance that is associated with kimberlitic
ilmenites. The nature of the concentration of these ilmenites may be part
of an apron surrounding a kimberlite pipe or a fissure.

A limited number of pyrope garnets has been discovered in one of the target
areas. The discovery of garnets is unusual in this area. Chemical
weathering occuring in this tropical region typically eliminates garnets
within a short period of time. The discovery of these garnets indicates
that their kimberlitic source may be close by.

The exploration team is currently conducting further analysis of the above
noted target areas during a two week pause in the drilling program. The
drill program is to be increased to facilitate more extensive drilling on
these target areas.

Paulo Andreazza has been appointed to the position of manager of
exploration. Mr. Andreazza has been associated with the company during its
exploration of the Chapada property and will be responsible for the
company's projects in Brazil. Mr. Andreazza is a senior geologist with
extensive experience in diamond exploration program co-ordination and
operations. Most recently, Mr. Andreazza was employed by RTZ on its Brazil
and Uruguay projects.

Due to personal reasons, J.R. Woodcock, director and vice-president,
exploration has decided to retire.
