(OT)Ben, Sorry to bother you with tech questions about max-pain but I don't see why corner points other than those having x-coordinate strike values are excluded as possible solutions of the optimization problem. My educated instinct would be to consider all corners. As we try to maximize the pain one would then set up the usual matrix..do the pivoting and all that.. to figure out which corner point (it has to be a corner) is the solution at any given time as the market approaches expiration...But maybe I'm missing something..
