HiTech- I think it is more probable that I will live to see a radical change (of which the flat tax is only one example) in the oppressive U.S. tax system than, 15 years ago, I would have thought the Berlin Wall would collapse by the year 2000. One reason I think this is that people with widely different perspectives now believe the income tax is seriously flawed- anymore it's not just those of us who are concerned with individual rights. Even a statist like Jimmy Carter, at least when he was on the hustings, called our tax system "a disgrace". Never underestimate the power of an idea whose time has come! Larry P.S. Yeah, I know, talk is cheap, and Jimmy made no concerted effort to change the tax system.
