FWIW, I thought it was pretty clear from listening to the call that Wilf was referring to earnings when he said that Q3 would be flat and Q4 slightly up. That is consistent with the context of the call. Of course, by Q4, Symbios will be rolled in, and so we may never know for sure.

David,

>>>LSI on the
other hand has been predictable with its earnings and has the potential for higher
earnings in '99 and yet they are struggling around their lows.<<<<

The problem with LSi's predictions, I'm afraid, is that they are great at predicting the next quarter (flat) but bad at predicting the quarters after that (up). Just when a future up quarter becomes the next quarter, they lower the expectations for it in a conference call. I've been following this stock for about a year and something like this has happened virtually every quarter. At around this time last year, LSI was supposed to earn $1.70 in 1998. You are right about their visibility three months into the future, but what matters now is whether the market can trust their visibility into the future 6-18 months. I'm sticking with the stock, but K's assessment seems more or less on the mark for a little while unless some definite event can confirm that the always expected upturn is about to happen.
