CMGI is an assembly line that makes internet marketing companies, instead of widgets. They have a set of companies that they own, either fully or partially, that they work with to launch as IPOs. These companies are in various states of development, much like widgets on an assembly line. CMGI generates capital gains rather than earnings to its shareholders, so it is difficult to compare them to more typical manufacturing businesses. CMGI does not "produce" new companies with clockwork regularity so results are less predictable. They are an incubator for startups.

Many folks say that the GCTY IPO is already priced into CMGI. I disagree. What's priced in is the possibility of the IPO and alternatively, the possibility that market conditions may delay the IPO, so as the IPO looks more and more real in the next couple of weeks, watch out for some good upside. The IPO will generate excitement both before and after it happens. That kind of excitement will move the price of CMGI.
