The fact the emergingcompany tv show does not accept stock IS a major difference, IMO.

The tv show also does not make recommendations or offer picks.

There are many stories of good companies which did not make it because they could not generate public interest.

People would have no problem if MXNT were to buy advertising to push its products, so why should they not be able to essentially do likewise to acquaint people with the company overall? Mutual Fund managers do it all the time.

Personally, I would prefer a company to pay cash to a program like emerging company reports, rather than give some newsletter writer or email spammer 25,000 shares to recommend the company as a buy.
