Dear Del,
All that I say is only MO. THe scriptures show that God tests us and refines us in fire. The Bible reveals the heart of each individual. This is clearly seen on AG, so many people can read the same scripture and have a different understanding of it and that reveals what is in their heart. The bulk of the Bible is an introduction to the being that Created life and the wisdom is amazing, when an open mind is there and willing to understand the writtings are obviously nothing a human could accomplish. Whenever there is an apparent contradiction that is usually a sign of an area of our hearts that is not in line with the Creator so we start to change it's meaning to suit our own understanding. I always approach the Bible as Job learned with respect to an author that is pure love, wisdom and intelligence, therefore all failure to comprehend is mine and not the authors. In Job God asks him some questions like, how does an animal know when to give birth, or why does the ocean stop at each continent, etc... I realized as Job did that I am the one that needs to gain His wisdom by maintaining an open mind and to be teachable (humble).
The killing in the OT again has to be seen from the perspective of a Creator. Can we determine what happened to these people after they died? All we can see is that this God is loving and powerfull and is pursuing a plan that was way beyond our capacity to understand then and know. In Isaiah God says why do they question me when the young die? Do that not realize I am sparing them from the evil of this world? So God must have something much better in perfect balance with their loss. It is what is in your heart that determines what you see.

<< Also, I believe faith is a gift from God to all who will accept it >>

I see it as a curse that leads people to believe any dogma that is spoon-fed to them, and close their minds to critical thinking>>

It certainly has been for many but that is what they are seeking and not what God is saying. The Bible does say that the world is opposite of apparent truth. The spirit in a man is eternal and the body we see will decay, therefore what is seen is not real and what is unseen is. THat is one need for faith.
I challenge the lack of presentation of both sides of evolution and creation. I think being off balance to promote one thinking is not wise for myself. Honestly the development of evolution in many ways was to disprove the concept of creation for that theory is much older than evolution.
Have a wonderful day,
Nancy
