NCTI Technology Delivered to United Airlines Passengers via the "Quiet Channel" on In-Flight Entertainment Systems
Available to United First and United Business Classes on Certain Long-Haul Flights
STAMFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 28, 1998-- Noise Cancellation Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:NCTI - news) today announced that the company's active noise cancellation technology is now available in United First and United Business Classes on certain United Airlines international aircraft.

Noise reduction is a highlighted feature of United's comprehensive in-flight entertainment and information system. A headphone icon on the keypad of each seat's ''Personal Control Unit'' allows passengers to experience NCT's anti-noise technology with or without audio. With the anti-noise activated, they may tune to channels for music or movies and enjoy superior sound quality or they may select channel ''0'', dubbed the ''Quiet Channel'', for noise reduction alone.

''United Airlines is constantly searching for new ways to improve service for its worldwide customers,'' said Mary Rogozinski, Manager, On Board Systems Planning, United Airlines. ''United is proud to be the first airline to implement this type of integrated noise cancellation technology which will enable passengers to better enjoy video and audio programming or simply block out the ambient noise.''

The United passenger control unit is equipped with technology similar to NCT's NoiseBuster Extreme!(TM) active noise reduction headphone and provides the same benefits. The product reduces up to 80 percent of low frequency background noise from engines, motors and fans. NoiseBuster Extreme!(TM), a popular item among frequent travelers, is available at Sharper Image and Brookstone stores or through NCT at 800-278-3526 for $69.

As the largest air carrier in the world and the largest majority employee-owned company, United Airlines offers more than 2,300 flights a day to 136 destinations in 30 countries and two U.S. territories.

NCTI is a leading technology developer with an extensive portfolio of proprietary algorithms and a wide variety of product offerings for consumer, commercial and industrial applications.
