Mohan, thanks for the info. Re. the following quote;
"Richard Chu, managing director at investment banking firm SG Cowen, said that Dell's average selling prices slipped 9 percent last quarter and that he expects them to fall 12 percent next quarter."

I believe this is completely wrong or taken out of context. What the writer meant to say was that these prices dropped 9% & 12% but on a year over year basis, not sequentially.

An excerpt from the article:

"Essentially the direct guys bought [the components] yesterday and are selling [them] tomorrow, so they can sell through the lower cost to their customers,"

If the analyst had done his homework the sentence would have read:

Essentially the direct guys will buy [the components] tomorrow after selling [them] yesterday, so they can sell through a portion of the lower cost to their customers and pocket the rest.

That's the power of JIT manufacturing in action.
