Trimble Avionics Introduces TrimView 500 Multi-Function Display

OSHKOSH, Wis., July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble (Nasdaq: TRMB) introduced today at the EAA AirVenture '98 Convention its TrimView(TM) 500 -- a new large format color multi-function display.

The TrimView 500 is part of the new TrimLine avionics product family, an innovative, certified line of general aviation products designed for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and retrofit aircraft markets.

The TrimView 500 features a 5-inch diagonal active matrix color LCD display that is sunlight readable and has a wide (120-degree) viewing angle. The unit is 6.25" wide x 4" high x 12" deep and weighs 9.5 pounds. It comes with a tray for easy avionics rack mounting. It is certified to TSO C113, C110a and C63c.

Using an open system architecture, the TrimView 500 is an expandable computer featuring a Pentium 160 MHz processor, and a 4 GByte hard disk drive. It features Avidyne application software including Avidyne Charts, Navigator, Lightning and RADAR.

"We are an avionics company with innovative cockpit solutions," said Charles Gunderson, avionics general manager. "Earlier this year, we introduced our TrimLine avionics suite. The suite includes high-performance navigation and communication products in compact, lightweight designs backed by an industry leading three-year warranty. With the introduction of TrimView 500, we are continuing our commitment to deliver innovative general aviation products that are pilot-friendly, easy to use and that present more data as graphical information."

Gunderson added, "The recently-announced relationship between Trimble and Avidyne makes all this possible and is truly unique in the general aviation marketplace. We have combined our resources to focus on creating central flight information display products. Our goal is to create 'Information Central', one display integrating flight, navigation, weather, and traffic information with an upgrade path to the future."

Jointly developed new products will be marketed by Trimble worldwide as part of the TrimLine product line and will feature Avidyne's industry leading software technology. Introductory application products include the following:

Avidyne Charts -- A raster-based moving map application that displays full-color, VFR sectional, WAC and terminal charts as well as IFR NOS charts. Charts feature a unique untethered mode which allows panning and zooming of the map as well as zoom-in and zoom-out.

Avidyne Navigator -- A vector-based moving map and flight planning
application, Navigator presents an electronic depiction of course lines, flight plan routes, jet routes, vector airways, navaids, intersections, airports and special use airspace. The vector map has track-up, north-up and desired track-up options as well as an easy to use zoom-in and zoom-out capabilities. Navigator's extensive flight planning and navigation management functions include sophisticated flight planning pages, as well as user configurable navigation pages. It offers a variety of on-screen data boxes, on-screen CDI, Direct- TO, ETE-ETA and nearest airport with detailed
information. Custom settings are easily defined and configured.

Avidyne Lightning -- a TSO'd alternative display for the remote-mounted BFGoodrich Stormscope WX-500 sensor. The display modes include all the standard Stormscope functions plus two exclusive Avidyne features -- color contoured strike display and a geo-positioned 30-minutes history of lightning
activity.

Avidyne RADAR -- a replacement display for Allied Signal analog and digital RADAR systems. The Avidyne RADAR option includes a RADAR interface card and special cabling which allows for pin-for-pin plug and playcompatibility with the user's previous radar display. Avidyne RADAR allows for control and full-color display of all vital weather information.
