Great Find, Mike!

Summa Four was a fish waiting to be caught!

Now: Watch for LU or NT/Bay to go after XLSW.

Regards, Frank C.

Basically, all this technical jargon boils down to TranSwitch looking ahead to preserve its market share in the SONET world.

They are enhancing the capabilities of their SONET multiplexers by expanding the protocols that their framers can handle. If you remember, the only framers that were initially standards supported were ATM and OCx. What I call "framers" they are calling "mappers" which is probably more technically correct.

The most important part of the release is the following statement:
"TranSwitch does not have to be caught by surprise as systems emerge that combine processing layers, such as packet over Sonet or ATM cells over optical WDM (wavelength-division
multiplexing) layers." They are merely positioning themselves and protecting themselves from non-standards supported protocols that players like Sprint are moving forward on, with or without standards in place.
