Not to downplay the 3rd generation questions, but maybe you could help me understand something about the CDMA overlay that I've always wondered about. Why would any operator in Europe use it? I can possibly understand the rationale from the perspective of (according to CDMA supporters) increased efficiency and lower costs, but if you had such a system, and the handsets that worked with it, wouldn't it negate one of the greatest advantages of the GSM systems blanketing Europe, i.e. country to country roaming? Wouldn't you have to have a coalition of operators in every country implement the same overlay in order for roaming to be effective? If you were the only operator to put such a system in place, wouldn't customers be more likely to choose a competitor whose phone would operate anywhere on the continent with GSM?
