International FiberCom Inc.'s Concepts in Communications Subsidiary Signs Agreement With Lucent Technologies

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 1998--International FiberCom Inc. (NASDAQ:IFCI - news; PHLX:IFC) and its chairman and chief executive officer, Joseph Kealy, Wednesday announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Concepts In Communications Inc. (''Concepts''), signed an agreement with Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU - news) to market, install and maintain the MERLIN LEGEND(R) Communications System and the PARTNER(R) Family of Communications Systems in the State of Tennessee.

The PARTNER family of systems gives small business customers a full range of current technology, tailored to their needs and size. The PARTNER system has been designed to enable a company's existing fax machines, modems, answering machines and credit card scanners to be incorporated into the system without adapters or dedicated lines.

The PARTNER systems are also designed modularly to allow businesses to upgrade from the smallest PARTNER system to the largest without replacing entire system.

Lucent Technologies' MERLIN LEGEND System, which operates as a key system or a PBX (private branch exchange), offers smaller businesses the same features and capabilities available to large businesses. The newest MERLIN LEGEND, with capacity of from 144 to 200 stations, operates a multimedia platform.

The system offers a line of digital/ISDN telephones, Internet access, high-speed data transfer, and conferencing and collaboration capabilities. Business customers eager to become more technologically sophisticated are given access to advanced communications applications by combining large screen display telephones with the latest transmission technology.

The MERLIN system reduces the need for small businesses to purchase new equipment as their communications requirements change.

Both the PARTNER and MERLIN LEGEND Communication Systems features a multi-line cordless business telephone and a broad range of voice mail and new and call accounting products.

Commenting on the agreement, Thompson Brown, president of the Concepts unit, stated, ''This agreement enables us to enhance the service we provide our customers by offering high-quality, Lucent Technologies communications systems. Furthermore, it is a continuation of a long established relationship between Concepts In Communications and Lucent Technologies.''

Lucent Technologies, headquartered in Murray Hill, N.J., designs, builds and delivers a wide range of public and private networks, communications systems and software, data networking systems, business telephone systems and microelectronic components. Bell Labs is the research and development arm for the company.
