Thanks djane: The key words here are 'red-tape',inefficient 'bureaucrats' and government leaders who lacks 'vision'.So until they dismantle the bureaucratic hurdles and install some visionaries in the government making a fast buck in India is going to be a distant dream,it will be, the very least, a long arduous process considering the ground realities.BTW this is true not only in Telecom but the whole infrastructure sector is in similar predicament. It is really sad considering the potential and what could have been but in order to rectify the situation changes have to be made and fast until then I don't know 'slow boat to China' comes to mind.<g>

Don't get me wrong a lot has changed since 1991 but the progress has been less than stellar. At the current rate investors, both foreign and domestic, will have to wait a lot longer than they originally anticipated to make their projects viable and profitable, companies with patience will survive, make money and may even flourish but a lot of them are not prepared to do this and may leave and deploy their funds elsewhere where the business climate is a lot friendlier and less bureaucratic.I for one am betting (allow me to cross my fingers)things will change sooner than later hoping that the people in power will realize the error in their ways and change (not out of their good-heartedness but out of necessity) but who knows????????

Just my personal opinion.
